Solace

As we were celebrating the birth of Jesus in 2022, I couldn’t help but notice how, in Scripture, certain individuals never settled for less than encountering Jesus Himself. Their stories remind me that nothing else truly satisfies like He does.

The shepherds could have appreciated the breaking news from the angels, taken a quick selfie, and gone back to watching their sheep. But no—they abandoned their flock (and probably left a WhatsApp message to the owner), and went to see the one who sent the angels. Jesus.

The wise men could have just marveled at the star, texted each other, “Bro, did you see that?” and stayed at home like Herod, gossiping about it over spiced wine. But instead, they packed their bags and set out on an epic road trip to find the one who created the star. Jesus.

And then there’s Simeon. This guy saw baby Jesus, and just like that, declared, “Now, Lord, I can die in peace.” Simeon didn’t need to travel the world first or tick off a bucket list. He wasn’t waiting to see how his life panned out—just seeing the Creator of the world was enough. Jesus.

So here’s my prayer for us all: May we not just settle for being in a Bible study, but seek to meet the Lord of the Bible. May we not be content with hanging out in fellowship with believers, but let our deepest connection be with the one we believe in. May we seek Jesus in everything we do—and only be satisfied when we’ve found Him.

Because, after all, why settle for second-best when you can have the real deal?
