Dear Parents, pray.
Parenting is not just physical care—it is spiritual warfare. The story of Abraham and Lot (Genesis 18-19) teaches us that we cannot assume our children will follow God simply because we raised them in the faith. We must intercede for them as well. Below is a structured prayer guide based on this biblical account to help guardians stand in the gap for their children.
1. A Prayer of Surrender: Acknowledging God’s Authority.
“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that You alone are the righteous Judge. You see the hearts of my children better than I do. I surrender them to You, knowing that only Your wisdom, mercy, and love can truly transform them. Help me trust Your ways even when I don’t understand them.
Declaration:
I release my children(insert names) into Your hands, Lord. You created them, and You know their future. I will not live in fear but in faith that You are working in their lives.
2. A Prayer of Protection: Covering Your Children from Worldly Influence.
_“For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD” (Genesis 19:13)._
Prayer:
Father, in a world filled with corruption, sin, and deception, I ask that You protect my children. May they not be swept away by the currents of the culture around them. Keep them from friendships, influences, and environments that would lead them away from You.
Declaration:
My children are set apart for the Lord. No scheme of the enemy will take them away from God’s plan for their lives.
3. A Prayer of Intercession: Standing in the Gap Like Abraham.
“And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Genesis 18:23).
Prayer:
Lord, I stand in the gap for my child. Even if they are walking away from You, I plead for Your mercy over their lives. Just as Abraham interceded for Lot, I pray that You rescue my child from destructive choices. Do not let them be comfortable in sin—draw them back to You.
Declaration:
No matter how far my child may stray, I will stand in prayer until they return to the Lord. I will not give up, for God is faithful.
4. A Prayer of Deliverance: Calling Them Out of Spiritual Bondage.
_“Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither.” (Genesis 19:22)_
Prayer:
Lord, if my child is trapped in sin—whether addiction, wrong relationships, or unbelief—I ask for deliverance. Just as You sent angels to pull Lot out of Sodom, send divine intervention to pull my child out of any destructive path. Open their eyes to the truth and set them free.
Declaration:
Sin has no hold over my child. The power of Jesus breaks every chain, and I declare freedom over their life in Jesus' name.
5. A Prayer of Spirit Baptism: That They May Be Led by the Holy Spirit.
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18)
Prayer:
Father, I pray that my child will not just leave sin but be filled with Your Holy Spirit. May they hunger for righteousness and find joy in Your presence. Surround them with godly influences and fill the void that the enemy once occupied with Your love, truth, and power.
Declaration:
My child belongs to Jesus. Their heart, mind, and soul will be ruled by the Holy Spirit, not by the world. They are destined for God’s purpose.
6. A Prayer of Wisdom and Strength for Parents.
“And Lot lingered... But the men laid hold upon his hand... and they brought him forth.” (Genesis 19:16)
Prayer:
Lord, give me wisdom and patience as I parent my child. When they make choices that grieve me, help me respond with love, discernment, and faith. Teach me when to speak, when to be silent, and when to simply pray. Strengthen me to stand firm in truth, even when it’s hard.
Declaration:
I am a parent chosen for this time. God has given me the strength to pray, guide, and love my child, no matter what...
God rescued Lot because of Abraham’s prayers (Genesis 19:29). That same God is still faithful today. Let this prayer guide be your battle strategy, and never stop believing that God’s mercy is greater than your child’s mistakes.

And if you haven't read through this letters from teens, maybe you're not a reader.🤦 |
Closing Prayer:
Lord, I commit my child to You. I will not give up praying, believing, and standing on Your promises. Let them be a testimony of Your grace. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
