Praying through Luke
As we come towards the tail end of Luke, it's clear that Jesus taught on a lot of things. In his teachings he said some profound statements. Let's zoom in on 12 of them even as we pray. Number 7 is
1. “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 6:20)
- God’s kingdom is open to the humble and the lowly. Wealth is not a prerequisite for experiencing His blessings.
Prayer: Father, remind me that true richness comes from You and that even in lack, Your kingdom belongs to those who seek You with humble hearts.
2. “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” (Luke 6:27)
- Jesus challenges us to rise above hate and seek peace and goodness, even with those who oppose us.
Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to love those who have hurt me and to do good, reflecting Your heart even in difficult relationships.
3. “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46)
- Following Jesus is more than words; it’s about obedience and action. Our faith should be evident in how we live.
Prayer: Father, help me to live out my faith through obedience to Your Word. May my actions reflect the Lordship of Christ in my life.
4. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.” (Luke 6:38)
- Generosity brings abundance. When we give with open hearts, God gives back more than we could imagine.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be generous in all I do, trusting that You are the provider of all things, and You will bless what I give in Your name.
5. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
- God is a loving Father who delights in giving His children the riches of His kingdom. We can trust in His provision and care.
Prayer: Father, remove fear from my heart. Let me walk confidently in Your promises, knowing that You have already given me Your kingdom.
6. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34)
- What we value most directs our hearts and lives. We are called to treasure things of eternal worth, not temporary possessions.
Prayer: Lord, shift my focus from earthly possessions to the eternal treasures of Your kingdom. May my heart be fully devoted to You.
7. “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” (Luke 10:2)
- There are many people ready to receive the gospel, but the laborers are few. We need to be active participants in sharing God’s message.
Prayer: Lord, send more workers into Your harvest. Use me as Your vessel to reach those who are ready to hear and receive the gospel.
8. “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)
- Commitment to God’s work requires focus and perseverance. Looking back or getting distracted can hinder our progress in the Kingdom.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remain focused on Your calling without turning back. Strengthen my commitment to Your service in every season.
9. “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)
- God values humility. When we humble ourselves, He lifts us up in due time, but pride leads to a downfall.
Prayer: Father, teach me to walk in humility. Help me to honor You by putting others first and trusting You to lift me when the time is right.
10. “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27)
- Being a disciple of Jesus requires sacrifice. We are called to carry our cross, which means laying down our lives for Christ’s sake.
Prayer: Lord, give me the courage and strength to carry my cross daily. Help me to surrender all that I am to follow You wholeheartedly.
11. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
- Jesus' mission is to seek out and save those who are far from God. As believers, we share in this mission to reach the lost.
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see the lost. Help me to have a heart like Yours, always seeking to share Your love with those who are lost and in need of Your saving grace.
12. "...but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." (Luke 22:31-32)
-Jesus prays for men. He's still seated at the right hand of the father interceding for men.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for praying for me. By your Spirit, help me not to give up on you.
There's more that Jesus said. Reread his words and make prayers in line with the same.
