Wacheni Kujiita Wazee Wasee!
Going through the Bible again this year has been quite the ride, and I’m loving the responses we’re getting as individuals engage in this exercise. Yesterday, we tackled the book of Leviticus, and what stood out for many was how serious God is about sin. Throughout the book, sin is often referred to as uncleanliness—and trust me, God isn’t joking about it. He is Holy, He calls us to be Holy, and He means business.
But for me, what has really stood out so far is Moses' story—not just how it began, but when. The guy officially got into ministry(working with God) at the prime young age of... 80 years! Yes, you heard me right—80! If that were today, some of us would be telling him, "Moses, you should be winding down, not starting up!" But God had other plans. He called and commissioned an 80-year-old youth into active duty.
Looking at Moses' life, it’s clear that the guy was fit—hata kama walikuwa hawana gym za siku hizi. I mean, walking around the desert herding sheep must have kept him in top shape. Then one day, boom! He embarks on a trek from Midian to Egypt. Now, according to historians and even those classic movies, the guy walked that entire distance. No Uber, no donkey express—just good ol’ leather sandals and determination.
Now, contrast that with us today— tukifika 30, tunaona kama retirement plan inafaa kuanza. By 60, watu wanapanga kuweka break on life, ministry, and anything that looks like work. But after reading Exodus, I’ve decided to rewrite my personal timeline. From now on, I refuse kujiita mzee!
Here are my new resolutions:
1. I will stay fit and active all the days of my life.
- This means eating well, fasting regularly, staying off unnecessary meds and drugs, exercising often, and keeping my weight manageable. Kama Moses aliweza, why not me?
2. I will be ready for new commissions, even in my 80s.
- Who said new ventures in ministry or life have an expiry date? India popped into my mind as I was thinking about this yesterday, and who knows—it might actually be a prophetic word!
3. I will encourage my friends to stay fit and only consider themselves old after clocking 100 years.
- Seriously, let's adjust our mindset—under 40, you're still a teenager. Under 90, you're a youth. 100+? Now we can talk retirement. Remember, God set the timeline at 120 years (Genesis 6:3), so stop aging yourself too soon!
So, fellow youths, let’s step up our game. Wazee ni wale tu wamepita miaka 100, na bado tunaweza kuwashika kwa pace!

Here I jumped higher than my Kalenjin friend. |
This article was written on 23/01/2023 and I'm glad I'm still keeping to the resolutions two years on.
