Foundation for freshas

Sometime back on 18th December 2022, I compiled this list of advice from men who went through college/campus life, graduated and were 'out there' as we say.

The question I had asked them was, "what counsel would you give a young lad going into college?" The following are their words with slight edits to keep the grammar right and the language one.

Enjoy.

...

‎Wasipige sherehe it has nothing to gain. I wasted my time and life with that. I will forever regret it.

‎Pursue your dreams not what will market you.

‎It's sounds cliché, but your friends will make you or break you. Choose wisely who to keep close.

‎To play safe cos it is a journey.

‎I'd tell them to finish their assignments in time 🤣🤣🤣

‎With GOD all things are possible to those who trust and believe HIM.

‎"Be aware that every emotion that you have is yet to experience the world. You are an adult only in body. Therefore you cannot allow your body to drive a mind that is still in its adolescence. Accept that you have some ways to go and grow, and make it your mission to discover who you truly are in the world."

‎This season of your life will expose you to a lot of new stuff, some maybe shocking, others maybe thrilling in an amazing way and others maybe not so interesting…with all that stuff striving for your attention you gonna have to make choices on what to focus on because where attention goes, energy flows there. Let the choices you make make you better each day and the best way in my view to navigate this life is by intentionally looking for sound mentorship.

‎Have Fun, Learn & Grow. 😊

‎Campus degree ni mbili...

‎Know thyself.

‎"Do your best to go through your campus life without the campus life going through you."

‎Jijue tu, utatoka hapa peke yako.

‎Be focused.

‎65% of students entering in primary school right now will work in jobs that are not created yet. Which means students in high school and entering colleges right now like yourselves will be the ones innovating those new jobs. This means that you will do this course and will most likely not grow a career in it, but you will have to create a better solution than the current role profile for the job destined currently by the course you have taken. It means that you will be listening to the teachers and asking how will that help me solve problems in the world, if the teacher cant answer, you have to find out how then discuss it with the teacher and your peers. In summary what you learn here in this college will be your stepping stone to being a strategic problem solver, because you will only get paid out here if you solve someone's problem. Next time we meet I wanna know how many methods you have thought about that can solve current problems related to lessons you have first taken in class, or have experienced prior to joining this college.

‎Do not just focus on the courses you have planned to take, drop in on the lectures of totally different courses, they are totally free, the lecturer will not kick you out. You have no idea what you will learn.

‎Be bold and try things and new ideas, try businesses, sports, travel etc do not just lock your mind to books and classes try real life stuff like part time jobs etc so you don't get a rude shock after fourth year.

‎If you find the course you chose or chosen for by the the government/parents etc is not what you want, drop it early enough. Learn to work with teams and develop your leadership skills.

‎The most important skill that is missing among professionals is not engineering, coding, medics, maths etc but leadership, the ability to rally engineers, scientists, medics towards a common goal.

‎Take your studies very seriously. There's freedom and liberty of whether you'll attend class or not but you're still expected to deliver. Also create networks and meaningful friendships. Most of the friends made in university become your friends forever.

‎Try to build friendships with lecturers, heads of departments and great students. Be bold and remember to have fun and live in the moment. Finally trust God, trusting God is a verb, it means doing somethings and avoiding others.

‎It's the best time to build the right foundation for your grades, career, friendships. You miss it here, the next time you will need to rebuild by breaking down, which is not a sweet thing.

‎Build great networks, join those clubs that will build you and bring opportunities your way.

‎Not to do a degree or course for their parents. They do what they feel is them. Life is lived once.

‎Love on God.. And study period.

‎Clubs for Course

‎Christians for Church

‎Crew for Connections

‎...

That's it. 26 words of wisdom from men you may never meet, but men who wish you well. Reread, process and apply what works for you.

Blessings.
