Dear guardians.

There’s a film from our Indian friends titled 3 Idiots. It follows the lives of three college students, each on a journey to pursue their dreams of becoming engineers. They end up at ICE (Imperial College of Engineering), and their story is as icy as it is inspiring.

The three boys — Rancho, Farhan, and Raju — each represent different struggles many of us can identify with.

Rancho is an orphan who has embraced his situation. He lives life to the fullest, squeezing out every drop of knowledge and joy he can find. He thrives not on wealth or family connections, but on curiosity and courage.

Farhan comes from a comfortable family. He is loved and well provided for — but not in the way that feeds his soul. His father insists he must become an engineer, shelving Farhan’s true passion for photography. His life becomes a quiet misery: successful on paper, but starving for authenticity.

Raju, meanwhile, comes from deep poverty. His sick father, worried mother, and sidelined sister weigh heavily on him. For him, college is not about dreams but survival. He studies under crushing pressure, hoping to secure a job that will lift his family out of struggle. Yet in that pressure, he misses the flowers along the way.

These three different worlds collide in friendship, and their bond becomes a source of laughter, resilience, and hope. Each of them was handed lemons by life — one with no parents, and the other two with parents who, though present, become a BURDEN or BARRIER.

The scriptwriter did a marvelous job of painting realities many of us know all too well. Life often hands us a fork when what we really need is a spoon to enjoy our soup. And yet, in the middle of it all, hope shines through.

The film doesn’t just entertain; it invites you to reflect, to dream, and maybe even to be the “fourth idiot” — the one who chooses courage, passion, and true friendship.

I would recommend 3 Idiots not just to students, but especially to parents and guardians, and to every good student of life.
