6th September 2011

Turning a new leaf on this day. What has the world to offer?

Am believing God for success and prosperity. It shall come to pass that my gifts will only be coming in ribbons due to their size.

Wish me well, and watch what God will do to His glory and Honor.

Fresh Start

It has been one year now, counting today, since i volunteered to do ministry among the Scholars in Thika Colleges and Universities.
It has been an experience to remember. Today as i close down on the one year, i would love to big up all the guys we worked together. From Bishop Mulandi, David Kinguyu, Kaway, Sue, Dun, Ken, Silas, Kadiri, Qui, Dude, Ken, Twin, Waithax, Mzedy, Mercy, Stella, and all other ACMI Staff.
I will bless the Lord at all times for that opportunity. i hold it dearly.

The History of Drums

How did drums begin and how have they changed over time?

History of drums began with the emergence of human civilization. Drum beating as it is popularly known has been associated with the birth of humankind. Drum and bass (commonly abbreviated to DnB, drum n bass and drum and bass) is a sort of electronic dance music also known as jungle. It is also called a membranophone, means an instrument that makes sound by striking a prolonged membrane with some type of object, typically a curved stick.

Drums consist of a hollowed out piece (called the body), a covering extended over the end of the drum, and tuning keys or pegs which stiffens or loosens the membrane to achieve different tones. It is a common notion that the body of the drum generates the sound; it is in fact the membrane and its vibration that creates the sound when struck.

Following the history of drums, it is presumed origination of drums to be as early as in 6000 BC. Mesopotamian excavations discovered small cylindrical drums dated 3000 BC. Inside caves in Peru several wall markings were found which show the use of drums in various aspects of communal life. The American Indians used gourd and wooden constructed drums for their rituals and ceremonies. Drums are not always used for creating music only. It has also been used for communication purpose.

African drums
Adding more than one drum!

In African tribal cultures (also in the regional culture), drums bore an important part in the use of rituals and religious ceremonies. The people of different African tribes relied on the use of drums to express themselves and important messaging was done through series of drum beats along the length of the jungle. African drums and drummers provided an addictive and unique sound that deeply influenced Western Rock and Roll music

When it was discovered in the history of drums that one player could play two or more drums at the same time, people started placing groups of drums together for one musician to play. The player not only played drums of similar types but also imported from other cultures and around the globe. The early 1930s discovered a newly found trick. Musicians found out with the proper drum placement and a lot of practice, a single player could handle a set of drums, and an entire group of drum players was not necessary anymore. This leads to the origin of the Drum kit.

How did drums develop

Double drumming is an important development in the history of drums. Double drumming is one drummer playing more than one drums. Cymbals and tom toms, invented in China were added to drum kits of the drummer, which was fast to accommodate different set of drums. Cowbells, wooden blocks, and chimes which were the percussion additions were incorporated as well. In the flow of the history of drums, by the 1930s the typical drum kit had taken shape with the various instruments in its armory. The kit consisted of a foot pedal and bass drum, snare, hi hat cymbal, tom toms, and large hanging cymbals.

1960s saw the rise of rock drummers, who began the development of drum kits that are the standard today. More toms and cymbals, as well as the accumulation of another bass drum to boost speed were added. Electronic drums then came into being with the intention of creating sounds that traditional drums were unable to generate. The history of drums thus echoed the variable sounds and rhythms of human development.

Invest in who you are.

It has been said that the best investment is investing in your future. I differ.
It is not even in investing in the future of your friend, NO!
According to me, the best investment is the investment in your present.
INVESTING IN WHO YOU ARE NOW, and making him or her better.

We can do this, and we will do this. Yes. As parents, you can invest in your childrens present. I personally did. I invented in my present. After high school i served God for one year-2005. After college am again doing another year-2011. This gives me a chance to connect with God well and to become a better man.

You can do this as well. If intrested, let me know if you are wondering how?
An investment in their present, is an investment in their future.

God bless you...

BELIEVE because you are a believer...

Abram - Abraham

Am reading through the book of Genesis.
Just stopped at chapter 24.
The life of Abraham is surprising me- Ch 12ff
This man is extremely blessed -13:2
Though without a child until 100 years - 15:2, 21:5
He is successful – 14:16
Much Livestock, Silver and Gold
He has favor with Nations – 23:5
Even though he struggles with a lying tongue – 20:2
God still talks to him -21:12, 12:1
Nobody wants to have him as an enemy – 21:22
And all this is because of one thing.

He believed – 15:6

He believed the Lord.
I choose to believe.
Yes. I choose to BELIEVE that God is.
He is a rewader of them that diligently seek Him.

But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6

JESUS THE GATE, SATAN THE GATE CRASHER

John 10:1-101:Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2: But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3: To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4: And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5: And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6: This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7: Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

It is good to note that Christ refers to Himself in verse 7 as the DOOR. Not the shepherd, No! he is the door. Did you know that there is only one way to salvation and into been part of the kingdom of God? Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. We can only go to the father through Jesus Christ. There is no other way by which we can be saved. Only the Jesus way.He is not the shepherd, but the good shepherd. He is not the king, but the King of Kings. He is not the Lord, but the Lord of Lords. He isn’t just a counselor, but the Mighty counselor. God is above and beyond what you might think of Him. Never limit Him this year. He once asked the disciples, ‘whom do people say that I am?’

WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS? Who is He to you? To me He is El-Shadad. Jehovah, the Lord my Father]

8: All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9: I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

God has this party organized for you and has invited most of your friends and loved ones. There is alot of food, music that you like, decoration, Swimming- that is drowned in water, awesome lighting and a time for some fireworks. Later in the night, people will unwind around the fire and talk almost till Dawn. It's a party to die for, long for and not to miss. According to Jeremiah 29:11 the plans of God for you are ever good. Just as this one.

This is the plan of God for you this year. It is for good and not for evil. You will surely attain all that you hope for.

Amen?

All in all, there are some people-uninvited guests who choose to come and ruin the party. Since they have no invitation Card. They have to find another way in. Ruka (Jump over the) fence. Vs1. This is drunkardness, Lies, evil thoughts, hatred, jealousy, porn, faithlessness, no prayer, and no bible reading , friends and people who build as not at all . . . among others.

These guys are out to spoil the Party and make sure that all the food, drinks, music, friends and company, fireworks etc goes to waste.

But God has some good news. He says - I AM COME. That you may have life, and have it even more abundantly. Vs10.

Abundance will mean no lies, no hate, no hurts, no pain, no sicknesses, no porn, no fellowship missing, no lack of prayer, no peer influence in the wrong ways and the list is long. ABUNDANCE.That and this is what I pray for you. That God will set you free from any sin that easily entangles you. In the Name of Jesus, you will walk a sin free life. It is possible. So that at the end of the day you will enjoy the party set for you.Don’t allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to ruin your party this year.

Use your GIFT where your SPIT can reach.

Your Gift
ONE of the hard things Christians have had to deal with is the challenge of accepting where God has placed us.
We give alot to our local HomeChurches and forget we belong to the whole body of Christ and not a part of it.
Reading through this, i hope it will encourage you to serve God right where you are. Use your GIFT where your SPIT can reach.

Genesis 25: 27-34

Esau Sells His Birthright

27 As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter. He was an outdoorsman, but Jacob had a quiet temperament, preferring to stay at home.
28 Isaac loved Esau because he enjoyed eating the wild game Esau brought home, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from the wilderness exhausted and hungry.
30 Esau said to Jacob, “I’m starved! Give me some of that red stew!” (This is how Esau got his other name, Edom, which means “red.”)
31 “All right,” Jacob replied, “but trade me your rights as the firstborn son.”
32 “Look, I’m dying of starvation!” said Esau. “What good is my birthright to me now?”
33 But Jacob said, “First you must swear that your birthright is mine.” So Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother, Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew. Esau ate the meal, then got up and left. He showed contempt (dislike, hate) for his rights as the firstborn.
This is a story well known to many people. Maybe apart from you. The story of the twins who fought. It all began in their mothers womb.

It is good to note that this are the first twins to be mentioned in the bible.

No other woman could tell Rebekah (their Mother) of how it feels to carry twins within herself.

This further explains why she had to approach God and enquire what is happening to her. Vs 22,23.

It will be good to also note that this two children were birthed as a result of prayer. 20yrs later after their parents were married.

Their father Isaac is the one who pleaded with the Lord on behalf of his wife that they may have children. Vs 21.

It is a common thing to hear of Children who were born after their parents engaged God in prayer.

This is not our main point though. God is interested in talking to us about our gifting. He is concerned.

V 27 begins by telling us of the gifting upon the life of Esau. He was a skillful hunter.

Maybe he never came back home without some meat. Maybe he was the kind of hunter who in a short while, he would be holding a great hunt in his hands.

Vs 28, his dad loved him because of this. All men have a strong weakness towards meat. The total opposite of his wife Rebekah. She loved Jacob. Mama’s boy.
We all are gifted in one way or another. Some are gifted in the area of music, leadership, service, giving, and encouragement among others.

The bible says in Romans 12:6-8

6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.

8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

God has installed in each one of us different gifts. And it is in us in search a way that we can do it well. Not everybody does it the way you do it.

People act, but you act with a difference

People dance, but you dance with a difference

People eat, but you eat with a difference

People lead, but you lead with a difference

People sing, but you sing with a difference

Isaiah 58:12 says,

12 Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.

Someone may ask, what about the rest of us? You will do something else that the others have not done, cannot do and will never do. Because only you can do it and do it well.

How well are you doing what god has gifted you to do? Do you think your location is the wrong one? Think again.

You need to invest in what you are gifted to do. God puts in us a gift, but it is our responsibility to make it grow. God plants- we do the watering.

If you are an actor, invest in acting- buy some plays, write some among others.

If you are a singer, invest in your vocals- voice practice, learn from others.

If you are a dancer, invest in keeping fit- exercise, practice moves over and over again.

If you are leader, invest in leadership- go for seminars, read books, pray.

If you are a teacher, invest in teaching skills- invest in time in study, be current, teach.

Make friends where you are. Stay there. Don't think of what might be a better location. Leave the previous Locations. Yes they were good, yes you had many friends, yes you were known. But when the Lord says Go, you better go. Elijah in 1Kings 17:1-5, was told to go and stay there. Where? THERE. Where is there? There is THERE. right where you are. Serve God and stop making up excuses.

Amen?

My Faith in COLLEGE

Your Faith

One of the biggest challenges in student ministry is the fall-back sin. Many students are active in the faith; they pray a lot, fast many times, read and re-read the bible, hear God speak and much more in the faith. All in all, after college education, most testimonies go down the drain. Prayer becomes a burden, Keshas a thing of the past, meals are never missed… just to mention a few. What is the problem? In two words: ENVIROMENTAL CHRISTIANITY.

Esau is a respected man in the field of hunting. For us, we are known for our faith. Some of us are even called;

ule boi ameokoka,

kale kamanzi ka savedy,

ule jama wa church,

ule manzi wa cu

Some statements such as;

ule boi uombanga!

ule manzi ni msee word.

usichezee ule m-shee, utaombewa.

wewe ni roommate wa jane? Lazima utaokoka

trail your movements.
But observation shows that many college guys sell of their faith immediately after college. Why?

Esau comes back home, exhausted and hungry. A sweet aroma welcomes him from the distance of the homestead entrance. He is attracted to run to it and does so. A conversation ensues between him and his bro.

Jacob has worked hard the whole day to get a hunt for the family only to come back home with nothing. This never feels good.

Some of us work hard and actively in ministries while in College only to live school and it takes a while to get a job. Your family is in ruins, you get a job and they are paying peanuts(stipend). Maybe our results are not as good as we hoped among many other mis-comings. We feel starved (Vs 32).

32 “Look, I’m dying of starvation!” said Esau. “What good is my birthright to me now?”

After all we’ve done for Christ, is this what he does for us? We feel left alone, rejected, ignored and at times not loved. The bible however says in Romans 8:35, 36 and 37,

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Don’t think that way. God still loves you. Do not fear all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and are called according to His purposes. You are more than a conqueror. Do not loose faith. Do not fear do not be dismayed when the dark seasons come. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel and Jesus is the Light. He is the Light of the world and soon, God will say let there be light.

But how do you avoid failing your faith in life after college? When that job is offered to you and you have to give up your faith to work there?

Esau was offered some stew (Vs 29, 34).
29 One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from the wilderness exhausted and hungry.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew. Esau ate the meal, then got up and left. He showed contempt (dislike, hate) for his rights as the firstborn.

How do you avoid loosing your faith (prayer, scripture reading and fellowship) after college? Avoid Environmental Christianity.

 Prayer

Why do you pray? Why do you go for morning devotion? Why do you fast? Don’t do it because you are required by the cu leaders. No! Do it because God requires it. Scripture exhorts us to pray without ceasing. To pray for one another and pray for our leaders. David said in Psalm 116: 1, 2,

1 I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.
2 Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!

Let us pray as long as we have breath. God loves talking. He is a talkative God. Let us go to Him in prayer. He not only calls us to pray, but He also bends down to listen. He is interested in hearing us out and meeting with our needs.

It has been said; No prayer, No power. Some prayer, Some power. MUCH PRAYER, MUCH POWER.

I pray that we will fall in love with God so much that we cannot spend a day without taking time to talk with Him. Conversation with God is so special that it is called PRAYER. Who else do you pray to?

 Fellowship

Why do we go for fellowships? Why are we in the ministry we are in? don’t be there because of someone. No! Be there because the Lord requires that we fellowship. Hebrews 10: 23-25 says,

23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Be a part of the Church of Christ not just a part of a Congregation in the Church of Christ.

 Scripture

May we be continually active in reading the scriptures. It is common to think of the book of Romans as a letter to the Romanian church alone, or Philemon as a letter to Philemon, Apphia, Archippus and the Church from Paul and Timothy. But may I present it to you that it is a letter from God to you. Written with you in mind. All Genesis to Revelation was written with Japheth in mind. It was written with you in mind. Read your letters.

A story is told of a family that had a bible in the house that was never rear by anyone of them. Their 2yr old child took not that nobody ever read the book, and one day asked to whom it belonged (hi kitabu ni ya nani?). One of the older family members responded and said it belongs to God, only for the 2yr to suggest – si basi arudishiwe?

Timothy was exhorted by Paul to study the word to show himself approved unto God, a work man who needeth not to be put to shame. 2 Timothy 2:15

15 Work hard (study) so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

Galatians 6:11 notes,

11 NOTICE WHAT LARGE LETTERS I USE AS I WRITE THESE CLOSING WORDS IN MY OWN HANDWRITING.

This is not Paul’s handwriting but rather the handwriting of … GOD. (you get it?)

Let us encourage ourselves to read and study the scriptures not because we are in BS or because we need to give a testimony. NO! Study to show yourself approved unto God not man.

If we pray, fellowship and read the word according to the will of God, the fall-back sin will not be our portion.

Amen?

Inspired to be W.O.M.A.N

It was not an easy thing to do – ignoring her. Her kindness was known all over. She gave and gave generously. She never was very excited if a day ended without giving a helping hand to someone who needed it.

She was known among the poor. She lived among them and got to know what they were lacking and what they needed. According to her, poor was not poverty, but Position Of Obtaining Relationships (P.O.O.R). She was a friend to them – a friend indeed.

She was known among the wealthy. Through her, they were able to connect with the low in the society and share their wealth with them.

She was a bridge. A different bridge though. This is because she wasn’t stuck to areas with rivers, hills and mountains only; she was also found in deserts and the plains. She was a not road connector. No! She connected people; husbands to their wives, children to parents and relatives to their loved ones. No one ever went to her and left un-attended. She was an agent of change.

She gave. Not just what she had, but also who she was. She gave time, a smile, a hug, sound advice and greatest of all, love. She had a shoulder for every Tom, Dick or Harry – or maybe, every Florence, Dorcas or Mary. She loved all and gave to all.

On this one occasion, December 18th, it happened to be my birthday. My friends were not well prepared for it, but they contributed Kenya Shillings ten each and we prepared dinner. She happened to be present and she dined with us. Everyone else had already given their gifts (Ksh 10) apart from her. Since she also hadn’t planned for it, she was stranded for a while, and then she requested me to stand and receive my gift from her. With her hands behind her back, she gave a short speech, and asked me to close my eyes. From behind the veil of my eyes, I felt her right next to me and I waited to be told to open my eyes. What was a few seconds, felt like eternity to me. Finally, she did it. Once again, she touched a life. She gave me a hug and said ‘I love you’. Tears could not be held back- I wept. I felt loved and knew I was loved. She changed my life. I will forever love.

She was nicknamed “Deer”. This was all because she traveled the world not to find help for herself, but for others. Not only was she Deer, but she was also dear to many.

She learnt that alone she can only do enough. But with other people helping her, she would do more than enough. She received in order to give, and gave with the hope of receiving. She meant the world to many and the world was her vision.

She was motherly and had an open heart for all to be part of her life. She was available whenever there was a need. Neat in her appearance - warm in her interactions. I once thought, if my mom were alive, I would want her to be just as Deer.

She is not here with us today. I can’t say she died. She rested. After all the work she did, she deserved a rest. To her it was needful. God allowed her to rest. It wasn’t easy for all who knew her. One thing however remains in my heart about her. She inspired many to be a W.O.M.A.N – Warm, Open, Motherly, Available and Neat.
